The Effect of Fresnel Prism on Left Unilateral Neglect in Patients with Stroke

Abstract
|
|
|
Objective: To investigate of the effect of fresnel prism on left unilateral neglect in patients with stroke.
Methods: The subjects were evaluated the K-MMSE for assess the cognitive function. The Albert’s test, Clock Drawing Test, and Catherine Bergego Scale were used the evaluated of left unilateral neglect. 14 subjects were received fresnel prism training for 15 minutes, and traditional occupational therapy for 45 minutes during 3 weeks.
Result: The K-MMSE’s average score was 23.71±2.94. The Albert’s test was decreased 14.93±10.85 to 5.07±6.34(p=.000*), CBS was decreased 16.07±7.59 to 9.29±7.49 (p=.000*), and CDT was increased 6.39±2.47 to 8.68±1.61(p=.000*). There were significant differences.
Conclusion: We know that the fresnel prism is positive effect on perceptual neglect, representational neglect, and activities of daily living in stroke who have left unilateral neglect. So, when applied to the fresnel prism to the left unilateral neglect in stroke, it will be positive effect on decreasing the neglect.
